Pakistan Army Must Stay Away From Direct Rule – Democracy Is A Must For A Successful War Against Terror & Future Prosperity of Pakistan

By Sikander Hayat

I am not a fan of Asif Zardari & the family concern that is Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) with the entire corruption allegation hanging over the party and its leader. I appose NRO and I appose the way nepotism/cronyism is being promoted by the PPP but all these are lesser evils than a military takeover of Pakistan.
Military takeover is the worst option available in any situation but especially when there is war on in many parts of the country. Pakistan army can not seem to be solely responsible for the military action in any part of the country and must have the backing of the people. That backing can only be provided for in a functioning democracy when elected members of the legislature are a living proof that the state will not do anything which will be against the common interests of the people of Pakistan.
A democracy provides legitimacy to the army action which was lacking while Musharaf was in power and people saw his actions as the actions of a single institution which had no regard for the public opinion.
Pakistan is in no position to not take into account the public opinion and the current consensus among the masses of Pakistan to take military action against the terrorists is a positive by-product of the functioning democratic process in Pakistan. This process must not be derailed at any cost as democratic process by its very nature is messy. One thing looks certain that once this government will complete its term, people of Pakistan will not return it to power for the foreseeable future but this is the choice that people of Pakistan will have to make and it is solely their prerogative.
I must say that I am not oblivious to the fact that governance is the last thing this government is doing but people’s will must be respected and as this government won the mandate for a five year term, it must complete its term for the sake of democratic Pakistan and the aspirations of its masses.

India: The Terrorists Within

A day after major Indian cities were placed on high alert following blasts in the IT city of Bangalore, as many as 17 blasts ripped through Ahmedabad, capital of the affluent western Indian state of Gujarat . Some 30 people were killed, some at hospitals where bombs were timed to go off when the injured from other blasts were being brought in. (Later, in Surat, a center for the world's diamond industry, a bomb was defused near a hospital and two cars packed with explosives were found in in the city's outskirts.) Investigators pointed fingers at the usual Islamist suspects: Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT), Bangladesh- based Harkat-ul Jihadi Islami (HUJI) and the indigenous Students' Islamic Movement of India (SIMI). But even as the police searched for clues, the Ahmedabad attacks were owned up by a group calling itself the " Indian Mujahideen. " Several TV news stations received an email five minutes before the first blasts in Ahmedabad. The message repo

Tribes which are the foundation stone of Pakistan come from all ethnic groups of Pakistan either they be Sindhi, Balochi, Pathan or Punjabi. One of these men of war & honour were Mir Chakar Khan Rind. He is probably the most famous leader coming out of Baloch ethnic group of Pakistan. Mir Chakar Khan Rind or Chakar-i-Azam (1468 – 1565 ) was a Baloch king and ruler of Satghara in (Southern Pakistani Punjab) in the 15th century.
