Why America Must Not Attack Quetta - Lessons From Vietnam

By Sikander Hayat

These days Quetta is mostly notable because of Western & Indian propaganda about the presence of so called “Quetta Shura” but Quetta is a city with a different soul and is the most multiethnic city of the Balochistan province. Quetta has a rich history and is the holder of unmatched cultural beauty.
These days USA is trying to find ways to attack Quetta but they are in for a surprise if they actually do this because straight away whatever goodwill is present in Pakistan for the America’s activities in this neighbourhood will quickly vanish and replaced by hostility.
America thinks that Taliban have fled from Afghanistan and have settled in Quetta. Even if this statement is considered as true what is the guarantee that if Quetta is attacked then Taliban will not flee once again further into Pakistan. What will USA do then? Would they attack the rest of Pakistan in that case?
This policy of furthering the war is not a wise one and is a mistake which America made in Vietnam when US attacked Cambodia and Laos for harbouring the fugitives from Vietnam. What that policy did was to alienate people of
Cambodia and Laos further and to the extent that they made it their duty to do whatever they could to defeat America in Vietnam.
America’s success is important for Pakistan and for the region and they have to do all they can to defeat Taliban in Afghanistan. They have to finish this job but in Afghanistan as they don’t have more resources to start a new war or to finish this new war.
Pakistan is suffering because America took her eyes off Afghanistan and attacked a peaceful anti Al-Qaida country in the form of Iraq. Now that suddenly they have woken up to the fact that actually AfPak is the biggest danger to the Western security, they are talking absolute rubbish and calling it strategy. As a well wisher of US, I would like America to succeed in Afghanistan but attacking Quetta or any other part of Pakistan is not the right way to go about it.

  1. Well, America should not attack Quetta but it may be part of wider game. What is the ultimate goal of" War on terror" we still don't know. Quetta shura is just pretext to attack Baluchistan. They are deep people with deep thought and I personally believe the matter of attacking Quetta is complex then we are thinking about it. For Pakistan the matter will further worsen as Quetta is already in grip of separatist insurgency. What america wants through this attack on Quetta is murky.

India: The Terrorists Within

A day after major Indian cities were placed on high alert following blasts in the IT city of Bangalore, as many as 17 blasts ripped through Ahmedabad, capital of the affluent western Indian state of Gujarat . Some 30 people were killed, some at hospitals where bombs were timed to go off when the injured from other blasts were being brought in. (Later, in Surat, a center for the world's diamond industry, a bomb was defused near a hospital and two cars packed with explosives were found in in the city's outskirts.) Investigators pointed fingers at the usual Islamist suspects: Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT), Bangladesh- based Harkat-ul Jihadi Islami (HUJI) and the indigenous Students' Islamic Movement of India (SIMI). But even as the police searched for clues, the Ahmedabad attacks were owned up by a group calling itself the " Indian Mujahideen. " Several TV news stations received an email five minutes before the first blasts in Ahmedabad. The message repo...

Pakistan Army Must Not Intervene In The Current Crisis - Who To Blame For the Present Crisis in Pakistan ?

By Sikander Hayat Another day of agony and despair as Pakistanis live through a period of uncertainty but still I believe that army must not intervene in this crisis. These are the kind of circumstances when army need to show their resolve of not meddling in the political sphere of the country. No doubt that there will be people in the corridors of power and beyond who will be urging the army to step in and ‘save’ the country but let me tell you that country will only be saved if army stays away and let the politicians decide the future of the country, even if it means that there will be clashes on the streets of Islamabad. With free media in place, people are watching with open eyes the parts being played by each and every individual in this current saga. They know who is right and who is wrong and they will eventually decide who stays in power when the next general election comes. Who said that democracy was and orderly and pretty business ; it is anything but. Democracy ...
