Azad Kashmir & Gilgit Baltistan - Time For Pakistan To Take Unilateral Action

By Sikander Hayat
Azad Kashmir borders the Indian-controlled state of Jammu and Kashmir to the east Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province to the west, Gilgit Baltistan to the north, and Pakistan's Punjab Province to the south. With its capital at Muzaffarabad, Azad Jammu and Kashmir covers an area of 13,297 square kilometres (5,134 sq mi) and has an estimated population of about four million.
In October 1947, Azad Kashmir was liberated from India. Azad Kashmir Day is celebrated in Azad Jammu and Kashmir on October 24, which is the day that the Azad Jammu and Kashmir government was created in 1947. Pakistan has celebrated Kashmir Solidarity Day on February 5 of each year since 1990 as a day of protest against India's de facto sovereignty over its State of Jammu and Kashmir. That day is a national holiday in Pakistan.
Azad Jammu and Kashmir is predominantly Muslim. The majority of the population is culturally, linguistically, and ethnically related to the people of northern Punjab. The principal languages spoken are Pahari, Gojri, Dogri, Potohari, Urdu, Kashmiri, Pashto, and Punjabi.
Urdu is the official language of Azad Jammu and Kashmir. However, due to the area's diverse cultural blend, many languages are spoken by different populations.
It is high time that Azad Kashmir should become the 5th province of Pakistan. Gilgit Baltistan should also be given the full provincial status and should become the 6th province of Pakistan. These two new province will get their share of seats in the federal assembly and senate. This act will empower the people of this region and make sure that there is no difference between these two regions and the rest of Pakistan. Pakistan cannot wait for India to leave the occupied Kashmir. Time has shown that India’s evil empire will keep the occupation no matter what the cost.
There is currently 700,000 strong occupation force stationed in Indian occupied Kashmir and matter will not change in the coming years. While all this is happening, the economic & political development of Azad Kashmir is hurting and needs to be brought into line with the rest of Pakistan. Pakistani government can still continue its claim on the occupied Kashmir while integrating politically the people of Azad Kashmir into Pakistan’s national discourse.
India has been taking many unilateral actions with regards to occupied Kashmir, it is high time that Pakistan did the same and by a two third majority in the federal parliament and provincial assemblies, declare Azad Kashmir & Gilgit Baltistan 5th & 6th provinces of Pakistan respectively. Give these two new federal components their full share in the national budget and include these two provinces in the Pakistani mainstream.

India: The Terrorists Within

A day after major Indian cities were placed on high alert following blasts in the IT city of Bangalore, as many as 17 blasts ripped through Ahmedabad, capital of the affluent western Indian state of Gujarat . Some 30 people were killed, some at hospitals where bombs were timed to go off when the injured from other blasts were being brought in. (Later, in Surat, a center for the world's diamond industry, a bomb was defused near a hospital and two cars packed with explosives were found in in the city's outskirts.) Investigators pointed fingers at the usual Islamist suspects: Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT), Bangladesh- based Harkat-ul Jihadi Islami (HUJI) and the indigenous Students' Islamic Movement of India (SIMI). But even as the police searched for clues, the Ahmedabad attacks were owned up by a group calling itself the " Indian Mujahideen. " Several TV news stations received an email five minutes before the first blasts in Ahmedabad. The message repo

Pakistan Army Must Not Intervene In The Current Crisis - Who To Blame For the Present Crisis in Pakistan ?

By Sikander Hayat Another day of agony and despair as Pakistanis live through a period of uncertainty but still I believe that army must not intervene in this crisis. These are the kind of circumstances when army need to show their resolve of not meddling in the political sphere of the country. No doubt that there will be people in the corridors of power and beyond who will be urging the army to step in and ‘save’ the country but let me tell you that country will only be saved if army stays away and let the politicians decide the future of the country, even if it means that there will be clashes on the streets of Islamabad. With free media in place, people are watching with open eyes the parts being played by each and every individual in this current saga. They know who is right and who is wrong and they will eventually decide who stays in power when the next general election comes. Who said that democracy was and orderly and pretty business ; it is anything but. Democracy
