PEMRA grants 14 FM radio licence

ISLAMABAD, May 10 (APP): Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) here Saturday decided to grant 14 FM radio licenses for various cities.

The decision was taken in a meeting held here under the chair of Chairman PEMRA, Mushtaq Malik.

In addition, education purpose FM radio licenses to SZABIST Larkana campus was also approved. With the award of these licenses, the number of licensed FM radios in Pakistan would reach to 120 while raising the number of Radio licenses for education purpose to (14) fourteen.

FM radio license have been approved for Bahawalpur, Tando Allah Yar Khan, Kashmore, Bolan, Loralai, Qilla Saifullah, Attock, Upper Dir, Pishin, Qilla Abdullah, Tando Muhammad Khan, Umerkot, Kharan and Mastung cities areas.

Chairman PEMRA said these licenses are being issued pursuant to Authority’s objective to penetrate healthy and accessible media in every hook and corner of the country.

The Chairman said PEMRA is constantly striving to adopt latest electronic media technologies in Pakistan which will not only offer wide variety and choice to viewers but will also help in societal reforms.

The Authority, while examining the current status of electronic media in Pakistan, resolved to maintain level playing field for all media operators.

PEMRA discussed various issues pertaining to “Landing Right Holders” and licenses for satellite TV channels.Emerging media trends and future possible avenues for further health penetration of media in country were also brought to light.

Authority also approved cancellation of four non-operational cable TV licenses. Further, the prospects of cable TV licensing were also discussed in order to streamline this buoyant sector of electronic media industry.

The Authority members also deliberated upon and approved PEMRA budget for the financial year 2008.09.

Secretary MoI&B, Akram Shaheedi, Secretary Interior, Syed Kamal Shah, Chairman FBR Abdullah Yousaf Ali, Chairman PTA, Shahzada Alam Malik and other members also attended the meeting.

A day after major Indian cities were placed on high alert following blasts in the IT city of Bangalore, as many as 17 blasts ripped through Ahmedabad, capital of the affluent western Indian state of Gujarat . Mir Chakar Khan Rind - A Warrior Hero Of Baluchistan & Punjab Provinces of Pakistan

By Sikander Hayat The areas comprising the state of Pakistan have a rich history and are steeped in the traditions of martial kind. Tribes which are the foundation stone of Pakistan come from all ethnic groups of Pakistan either they be Sindhi, Balochi, Pathan or Punjabi. One of these men of war & honour were Mir Chakar Khan Rind. He is probably the most famous leader coming out of Baloch ethnic group of Pakistan. Mir Chakar Khan Rind or Chakar-i-Azam (1468 – 1565 ) was a Baloch king and ruler of Satghara in (Southern Pakistani Punjab) in the 15th century. He is considered a folk hero of the Baloch people and an important figure in the Baloch epic Hani and Sheh Mureed. Mir Chakar lived in Sibi in the hills of Balochistan and became the head of Rind tribe at the age of 18 after the death of his father Mir Shahak Khan.
