Security Agencies Spewing Venom in Kashmir: PDP

Srinagar, Aug 30, KONS- Pro-India Peoples Democratic Party today came down heavily on the security agencies saying they have failed to uphold the rule of law in the state and have instead resorted to indiscriminate arrests of youth across Kashmir valley. Party also blamed security agencies working in Kashmir for spewing out venom in desperation.
This was stated by the PDP General Secretary, Nizamudin Bhat and General Secretary Youth Wing Bashir Assad in a joint statement here today.
Taking a strong exception to the indiscriminate arrests made by law enforcing agencies in rural and urban areas of Kashmir, PDP leaders said that in repeat of what was done in 1989, the law enforcing agencies clamped down on the local media, thrash demonstrators and journalists broke into the homes and intimidate the inhabitants including elderly, children and women. "There was no difference between the attitude of the state then and now" PDP leaders said and maintained that the unprecedented peaceful demonstrations, despite disproportionate brutal reprisal, ought to have evoked a healthy response from the government but unfortunately it resorted to strong-arm methods and firefighting tactics trying to hold its grip by force than by spontaneity. The government is imposing a collective punishment on the entire population by launching a manhunt throughout Kashmir valley to nab the youth and has rounded up hundreds of peaceful protestors many of them being booked under Public Safety Act (PSA). PDP leaders maintained that the repressive measures against Kashmiris have neither worked in the past nor will such undemocratic actions help in dousing the flames sparkled by communal and fascist forces by arousing anti-Kashmiri passions across the country.
"It needs bold political initiatives to douse the flames not subjugation. After all the government of India did promise to restore Kashmir to its natural geography. The government should courageously override its national security apparatus and make good on its promise" PDP leaders asserted and maintained that it was unfortunate that the government of India choose not to provide effective means of assuaging people's anxiety over the economic blockade of valley, when people came out massively to protest peacefully, the government deliberately created a confrontationist situation. It seems that law enforcing agencies are not able to come to the grip of things; they have unleashed a rein of terror. PDP leaders cautioned that such repressive measures if continued would have far reaching consequences. They urged upon the government to rein in the elements resorting to suppressive measures in the valley.

India: The Terrorists Within

A day after major Indian cities were placed on high alert following blasts in the IT city of Bangalore, as many as 17 blasts ripped through Ahmedabad, capital of the affluent western Indian state of Gujarat . Some 30 people were killed, some at hospitals where bombs were timed to go off when the injured from other blasts were being brought in. (Later, in Surat, a center for the world's diamond industry, a bomb was defused near a hospital and two cars packed with explosives were found in in the city's outskirts.) Investigators pointed fingers at the usual Islamist suspects: Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT), Bangladesh- based Harkat-ul Jihadi Islami (HUJI) and the indigenous Students' Islamic Movement of India (SIMI). But even as the police searched for clues, the Ahmedabad attacks were owned up by a group calling itself the " Indian Mujahideen. " Several TV news stations received an email five minutes before the first blasts in Ahmedabad. The message repo...

Pakistan Army Must Not Intervene In The Current Crisis - Who To Blame For the Present Crisis in Pakistan ?

By Sikander Hayat Another day of agony and despair as Pakistanis live through a period of uncertainty but still I believe that army must not intervene in this crisis. These are the kind of circumstances when army need to show their resolve of not meddling in the political sphere of the country. No doubt that there will be people in the corridors of power and beyond who will be urging the army to step in and ‘save’ the country but let me tell you that country will only be saved if army stays away and let the politicians decide the future of the country, even if it means that there will be clashes on the streets of Islamabad. With free media in place, people are watching with open eyes the parts being played by each and every individual in this current saga. They know who is right and who is wrong and they will eventually decide who stays in power when the next general election comes. Who said that democracy was and orderly and pretty business ; it is anything but. Democracy ...
