Canada lauds efforts of Pakistan Coast Guards

KARACHI: Canada's High Commissioner Designate to Pakistan, Randolph Mank said Pakistan's law enforcement agencies face severe challenges when operating on border with Afghanistan and a lot more needs to be done.

“I am delighted to note there have been some very significant achievements, represented by a number of arrests made and seizure of illicit consignments, " he told deputy Director General, Pakistan Coast Guards Abdul Rashid Thursday after giving five pickups, four printers and four digital cameras.

The equipment is supplied by United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and funded entirely by Canada as part of its broad based assistance program to Pakistan (Pakistan Border Management Project). It will aid Pakistan Coast Guards in patrolling capability of Makran coast.

Under the umbrella of UNODC'S Triangular Initiative covering Afghanistan, Iran and Pakistan which enhances existing capacities of law enforcement agencies, charged with managing Western borders.

Thanking Canadian High Commission and UNDOC for assistance Abdul Rashid re-affirmed PCG commitment in combating drug trafficking besides receiving assistance in shape of essentially required equipment, PCG also participates in different training courses with assistance of UNODC, aimed at training trainers identifying, testing, sampling of drugs and precursor chemicals in the field.

Reorganizing PCG achievements in fight against illegal drug trafficking and countering illegal migration and human trafficking Andre Heinrichs re-iterated UNODC's hope equipment will help PCG contribute further to Pakistan's security and stop illegal cross border activities.

India: The Terrorists Within

A day after major Indian cities were placed on high alert following blasts in the IT city of Bangalore, as many as 17 blasts ripped through Ahmedabad, capital of the affluent western Indian state of Gujarat . Some 30 people were killed, some at hospitals where bombs were timed to go off when the injured from other blasts were being brought in. Pakistan Army Must Not Intervene In The Current Crisis - Who To Blame For the Present Crisis in Pakistan ?

These are the kind of circumstances when army need to show their resolve of not meddling in the political sphere of the country.
