What should be the way forward for Pakistan? How can Pakistan save itself from false Indian accusations and prosper as a country ?

By Sikander Hayat

How can Pakistan save itself from false Indian accusations and prosper as a country where people of all creeds and colours can live in harmony.

This should be the ‘to do’ list of people in charge of Pakistan fir the near future.

1. Pakistan has a presidential; system in practice, it must be codified in the constitution as such to make it easier for the people of Pakistan to elect a president directly which will give chance to people who want to serve the country and break the shackles of the current ruling class. For example a person like Imran Khan or the Chief Justice Iftikhar Choudary will have a chance in the presidential system.

2. Pakistan must be turned into a true federation where all its constituents have equal voting powers in the presidential elections where a Baloch, Kashmiri, Pakhtoon, Sindhi, Punjabi or a person of any ethnicity has the same chance of becoming a president as anyone else. This will help dissipate the perception that Punjabis and Pashtoons are the ruling class in Pakistan.

3. To resolve the Kashmir dispute once and for all, Azad Kashmir should be declared the 5th province of Pakistan and line of control should be declared the International border with concrete guarantee from India through the world powers and International court of Justice for the unabated flow of water.

4. Also there must be two more provinces which are the Province based on current Northern Areas and a province covering the seven tribal agencies
Pakistan should try to work on a strategy where it trades heavily with China and with its neighbours to the West and in ideal circumstances have open borders with Afghanistan and China.

5. Pakistan must stop all trade with India and leave the idea of Kashmir becoming part of Pakistan as Kashmiris want freedom for themselves not an affiliation with Pakistan.

6. Pakistan must end the siege mentality that it has and to do that ignore India completely. There must be no official contact between India and Pakistan at any level that includes any so called people to people contact. Islamabad must not have any diplomatic presence in India and ask India to do the same.
There must not be any bus, train, air or sea links between the two countries. All Indian nationals in Pakistan must be given 30 days at most to leave Pakistan and vice versa.
Pakistan must not have any relations whatsoever with India and all our policies should be Pakistan centric, spreading our word throughout the world.

7. There must not be any tolerance for any militant organisations in Pakistan and only elected government and state machinery should have the power to make decisions including the power to declare war on the enemy.

8. Internal harmony is the key to defeat any enemy, Pakistan must be made a country which is at ease with itself. That will be achived by making people proud of their land not of their belief. Pakistan must be a secular, nationalist, republic and any attempts to enforce a belief structure must be crushed with iron hands.

  1. hi sikhandar. as an indian i would be very disappointed to not be able to think of a pakistani as a friendly neighbor i can talk to anytime. so people to people interaction should never be prohibited. to start with, pakistanis and indians should learn they are not very different from each other - nothing, even religion, should come in the way of sharing friendship and goodwill.

i like the rest of the points in your "to do" list. india has managed to get better in the last two decades by not worrying about pakistan. pakistan would also do much better to concentrate on pakistan-centric policies towards upliftment of her own people.

    best regards

  2. Mr.Hayat,
Your patriotism is understandable, but you have mostly emotional outbursts. The example is the title India's "accusations". How can you turn around if you still live in denial and want to lie to yourself and your people.??

It looks like it is too late to turn around the country without external intervention. I'm not referring to India intervening. Once your terrorist groups stop attacking India, we are done with you. But it looks like things are not that simple any more and the situation has gotten much grimmer for Pakistan.

  3. Great post! Actually as an Indian I also feel that there should be no contact till both countries are able to trust each other. India is not able to trust Pak especially after mumbai blasts.Iif Pakistan has any similar reason ,thats fine.Instead of uselessly travelling to each others' countries ,both should work towards improving their economies. And India has always been ready to declare loc as the international border, if pakistan promises that it will not interfere in India's internal matter.

  5. Hi Rahul,

    Thanks for your post.

There is a growing body of opinion in Pakistan which believes that although the attacks may have been launched by the nationals from Pakistan but they were aided and abetted by the Indian security establishment.

Here is an excerpt from an article that was posted earlier.

“Truth cannot be hidden forever and the truth is out. There is further evidence that Indian security establishment is involved in Mumbai terror attacks and all those who have been accusing Pakistan must now apologise and publish the same length of articles to make an apology to Pakistanis as they did to implicate Pakistan.
This is the proof if proof was ever required that Indian intelligence services which are sympathetic to the cause of BJP and other right wing Hindu Fundamentalist Parties helped staged the Mumbai attacks. This is just the first information leaking out; eventually the whole plot will become clear (provided that it is not suppressed by the Research & Analysis wing (RAW)).
According to the BBC, an Indian Intelligence operative Mukhtar Ahmed provided mobile phone cards to the Mumbai terrorists. This intelligence operative is based in Kashmir and not in Mumbai so the much trumpeted theory of attackers coming from sea is in serious doubt as the mobile Sims were handed over in Indian Kashmir which clearly shows that attackers used the land route and not the sea route and in doing so used the help of Indian Intelligence Services Research & Analysis Wing (RAW) in carrying out these heinous attacks.
Calcutta police did not know of the connection between RAW and Mukhtar Ahmed and arrested him from the city few days ago.
This fact flies in the face of all those people who have not verified the Indian account of the terrorist attacks and taken it as a Gospel.
According to the BBC report, Mukhtar Ahmed has been working for the Indian Intelligence Service for a long time and has been previously used to do similar jobs.
Would the same world news media outlets now publish this story with the same gusto that they showed while blaming their favourite bogeyman, Pakistan.
Please do not forget that Hemant Karkare (The anti terror squad (ATS) chief was one of first victim of this brutal and heinous attack). Mr Karkare was unmasking the true extent of penetration of Hindu terrorism into the Indian military and intelligence apparatus. Please open your eyes and see who the main beneficuiary of this episode is and who the biggest loser is.
You can also visit my previous articles on this issue which will provide you the reasons why Indian security establishment and intelligence agencies have planned this in the first place and then the use of Indian Media by calculated leaks to build pressure on Pakistan.

  6. Mr Hayat,
I have very stong objection to your words "False Indian Accusations". Since you believe in BBC Reports as you quoted their report to prove your point in the reply to Rahul. The same BBC aired one of the Report saying that Lashker in Pakistan were responsible for Mumbai attacks. Not only the Indian agencies but US,UK, Israel and Russian agencies pointed that the attacks were carried by Pakistan national and the operation was carried out from Pakistan. There are sat Phone available which establishes the connection of attacks to pakistan. The report on the same was broadcasted in every International media. let me ask you a straight and specific question why can't people of Pakistan acknowledge that the problem lies within and introspect the ways to get rid of it?
The other question is how can you prove that Indian intelligence Agencies are sympathetic to hindu fundamentalist? I must tell you that in India it is state who controls the agencies and not like pakistan where agencies control the state. I am not making any accusation. President zardari promised Indian Prime Minister that he will send the ISI chief after the attacks then why was he unable to send the ISI chief to India. Don't you think this proves that Government of pakistan can't control ISI while the reverse seems true. I am not surprised when you said pointed the nexus between the Indian Agencies and Fundamentalist because it happens in pakistan. The links of ISI with Lashker in Afghanistan Bombing on Indian Embassy is extremely clear. CIA came forward with this report. So you must have thought the same principle Applies to India. But there is a difference sir, we are a secular and democratic nation.
when people in Pakistan say the after the martyrdom of Mr. Hemant karkare the hindu fundamentalist will be set free makes me laugh. Those hindu terrorist are still in jail and will always be. Because in India we have a judicial system that is unbiased. we dont run away from our duties of punishing terrorist for their heinious crimes.
speaking about pakistan's seriousness in fighting terrorism. I have certain doubts. Pakistan's Foreign minister in an Interview to DAWN news said that Maulana Masood Azhar{i hope you know who he is} is under house arrest. After 17 hours of this interview he issues another statement saying that Masood Azhar is absconding. If i go by the way you draw the conclusion from the report, then I think Pakistan Government aided Azhar{An international terrorist} to abscond. The UNSC passed a resolution banning JuD{jammat ud dawa} and what had pakistan done. One on hand they say we will abide by UNSC resolution and on the other hand their interior minister says we are not going to ban JuD. Don't you think this makes a mockery of
    pakistan's effort in fighting terrorism?

  7. Hi Anonymous,

I hope that if you next time visit this site, you will leave your name.
You have given good arguments and I have read your comments with great interest.
And yes, I know who Masood Azhar is.

I have got a very simple question and that is as follows.

Few days ago Mr Pranab Mukherji said that they have not handed over any evidence to Pakistan because the investigation is ongoing.

Now you tell me how can we arrest Masood Azhar and ban JuD, just because India has said so with great conviction.

India had the same conviction of argument after Samjhauta Express massacre when hundreds of people were burnt alive. Colonel Prohit , a serving army officer, and other retired army officers were found to be involved in that tragedy, hence my assertion that it is not beyond the pale that similar operatives are at work again.

India said with great conviction then that LeT is involved, LeT denied and was proven right when your own investigation implicated Hindu terror groups.

Not guilty until proven otherwise is the norm of the civilisation and one cannot indict anyone just on the basis of mass hysteria created by manipulative media.

Once again thanks for your comments.

  8. Mr Hayat,
Thanks for posting your reply. I dont want to write my name with a simple reason that you will try to seek my religion in my name. I am an Indian and this is my proud identity. But You have made no attempts to answer the question's I raised.
Sir you say 'Few days ago Mr Pranab Mukherji said that they have not handed over any evidence to Pakistan because the investigation is ongoing.' this means that you believe in the words of Mr. Mukherji{if you do then i must thank you for the same}. When a journalist asked Mr Pranab Mukherji in his press conference at Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir, India about the reasons why India is not sharing the evidence with pakistan his reply was 'We{India} had shared evidence with paskistan ten times previously and Pakistan did nothing to punish the culprits. he further said if they can't punish the culprits previously how can India trust Pakistan in their attempt to punish those Involve in Mumbai Attacks'. India had readily shared the evidence with US and UK agencies. The result was British Prime Minister, when in Delhi said LeT{in Pakistan} is responsible for the Mumbai attacks. Here its not manipulative media, its UK Prime Minister giving the statement. Will
you say that even UK prime minister was Manipulative?
Sir you are forgetting one thing and that the UNSC has declared LeT as a terrorist organisation in 2002. Don't you think as a true Pakistani it is your duty to stop LeT being operative from pakistan. As it has already malign the character of Pakistan{as a state} in the eyes of Indians and rest of the world.

I agree India convicted LeT for the blast of samjhauta express. But you forget one thing and that it was an Indian agencies which found that hindu terrorist were involved in the blast and gathered enough evidence to nab the culprits. I assure you that colonel purohit will spend rest of his life in jail. Thats the power of India Justice system which I am proud of.If we Indians can accept our mistakes and rectify them than why can't people in Pakistan atleast try to show some sincerity in their efforts to fight terrorism?

you said 'Now you tell me how can we arrest Masood Azhar and ban JuD, just because India has said so with great conviction.'
I will point out two reason's
    1. Pakistan says its a responsible member of International community. The ban on JuD is not placed by India. In fact its placed by UNSC{United Nations Security Council, even China supported it}. It did after India gave evidence to UNSC about JuD's invovlement in Mumbai attacks. Pakistan as a responsible member is bounded by the UN to act on JuD. by not doing so don't you think Pakistan is loosing its crediblity as a fair state?

    2. Masood Azhar is most wanted terrorist in UN and US list. UK prime minister said that he was responsible for london bombing. Dont you think it not fair on the part of Pakistan Government to act on him when they know where he is?

Mr Hayat, sir, My question's are simple and specific but only if you want to answer.
If we Indians can acknowledge mistake and rectify why can't people of Pakistan try to put their house in order? when will the time come to people in pakistan to introspect about terrorism?
its very easy to say we are the victims of terrorism but where is the intent to get rid of terrorism?

India: The Terrorists Within

A day after major Indian cities were placed on high alert following blasts in the IT city of Bangalore, as many as 17 blasts ripped through Ahmedabad, capital of the affluent western Indian state of Gujarat . Some 30 people were killed, some at hospitals where bombs were timed to go off when the injured from other blasts were being brought in. (Later, in Surat, a center for the world's diamond industry, a bomb was defused near a hospital and two cars packed with explosives were found in in the city's outskirts.) Investigators pointed fingers at the usual Islamist suspects: Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT), Bangladesh- based Harkat-ul Jihadi Islami (HUJI) and the indigenous Students' Islamic Movement of India (SIMI). But even as the police searched for clues, the Ahmedabad attacks were owned up by a group calling itself the " Indian Mujahideen. " Several TV news stations received an email five minutes before the first blasts in Ahmedabad. The message repo...

Pakistan Army Must Not Intervene In The Current Crisis - Who To Blame For the Present Crisis in Pakistan ?

By Sikander Hayat Another day of agony and despair as Pakistanis live through a period of uncertainty but still I believe that army must not intervene in this crisis. These are the kind of circumstances when army need to show their resolve of not meddling in the political sphere of the country. No doubt that there will be people in the corridors of power and beyond who will be urging the army to step in and ‘save’ the country but let me tell you that country will only be saved if army stays away and let the politicians decide the future of the country, even if it means that there will be clashes on the streets of Islamabad. With free media in place, people are watching with open eyes the parts being played by each and every individual in this current saga. They know who is right and who is wrong and they will eventually decide who stays in power when the next general election comes. Who said that democracy was and orderly and pretty business ; it is anything but. Democracy ...
