23rd March 2009 - Pakistan Republic Day - What Pakistanis Are Thinking About Pakistan & Foreign Powers

By Sikander Hayat

Pakistan had obtained its independence from the British Raj on 14th of August 1947. The 23rd March (Pakistan Day) remembers the day when the Lahore Resolution which cemented the idea of a new Muslim nation in the sub-continent was passed.
It must be said that Pakistan Republic Day 2009 has acquired an extra significance as this is the being celebrated amidst the current spell of goodwill all over the country. Restoration of judiciary has reignited the same hope that people of Pakistan had at the time of independence. They know that there are numerous problems but they also believe that they can resolve them now as though they have the power to change their future.

Outside world is very much behind when it comes to gauging the mood in Pakistan and it became evident to me when a respected news channel was talking about the disintegration of Pakistan. To those ignorant foreign friends I must say that that mood in Pakistan is very much belligerent against these kind of assertions and against those who think that they can dictate terms to us.

Pakistanis will not let anyone dictate anything anymore and will not let anyone rule them who does not do Pakistan’s bidding on the world stage.
Indian inspired media onslaught e.g a blog by Reuters “Pakistan – Now or Never” has spent many months doing nothing but writing against the Pakistani State. They forget that there rant about Pakistan is not taken seriously in that country and dismissed out of hand.

If America or the outside world wants to deal with the AfPak region then they have to change their thinking, change their attitude and listen to what Pakistanis have to say. America tried to keep Musharraf in power but failed, it tried to keep the Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudry out but failed, it tried to stop Sharia being implemented in some parts of the country but it failed.

It will keep failing until America learns to respect the will of the people because it is just can’t go on defying people power.
Let us live the way we want to live and stop meddling in our affairs because this Pakistani nation fiercely believes in the dictum of “Friends, Not Masters”.

India: The Terrorists Within

A day after major Indian cities were placed on high alert following blasts in the IT city of Bangalore, as many as 17 blasts ripped through Ahmedabad, capital of the affluent western Indian state of Gujarat . Some 30 people were killed, some at hospitals where bombs were timed to go off when the injured from other blasts were being brought in. (Later, in Surat, a center for the world's diamond industry, a bomb was defused near a hospital and two cars packed with explosives were found in in the city's outskirts.) Investigators pointed fingers at the usual Islamist suspects: Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT), Bangladesh- based Harkat-ul Jihadi Islami (HUJI) and the indigenous Students' Islamic Movement of India (SIMI). But even as the police searched for clues, the Ahmedabad attacks were owned up by a group calling itself the " Indian Mujahideen. " Several TV news stations received an email five minutes before the first blasts in Ahmedabad. The message repo
