Gilgit Baltistan Elections – A Chance to Bring Democracy to the Newest Province Of Pakistan

Elections in Gilgit Baltistan are keeping the spirits of the Pakistani democrats high as for the first time people of Gilgit Baltistan have been given the right to become a federating unit of Pakistan.
These elections are a contest between two major political parties of Pakistan i.e. Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) &
Pakistan Muslim League (PMLN). Also for the first time MQM is making a strong case for becoming the party of the federation by getting out of it’s stronghold of Karachi and contesting most of the seats in the provincial assembly of Gilgit Baltiustan. It is a very welcome development for the people of Pakistan who want choice and want to vote for parties other than PPP & PMLN.
I am amazed to see the total absence of Imran Khan’s Tehrik-e-Insaaf from the scene as it would have been a good opportunity for them to break into a new terrain. It will be a lost opportunity for Imran Khan as he is letting other parties strengthen their bases in Gilgit Baltistan.
These elections should result in an assembly which can lead to a Gilgit Baltistan becoming a new beacon for democracy in Pakistani federation and hopefully people of this area will elect members who can honestly represent them in the houses of parliament

Mir Chakar Khan Rind - A Warrior Hero Of Baluchistan & Punjab Provinces of Pakistan

Tribes which are the foundation stone of Pakistan come from all ethnic groups of Pakistan either they be Sindhi, Balochi, Pathan or Punjabi. One of these men of war & honour were Mir Chakar Khan Rind. He is probably the most famous leader coming out of Baloch ethnic group of Pakistan. Mir Chakar Khan Rind or Chakar-i-Azam (1468 – 1565 ) was a Baloch king and ruler of Satghara in (Southern Pakistani Punjab) in the 15th century. He is considered a folk hero of the Baloch people and an important figure in the Baloch epic Hani and Sheh Mureed. Mir Chakar lived in Sibi in the hills of Balochistan and became the head of Rind tribe at the age of 18 after the death of his father Mir Shahak Khan. A day after major Indian cities were placed on high alert following blasts in the IT city of Bangalore, as many as 17 blasts ripped through Ahmedabad, capital of the affluent western Indian state of Gujarat . Some 30 people were killed, some at hospitals where bombs were timed to go off when the injured from other blasts were being brought in.
