The gutter press like News of The World & The Sun are waging a campaign of misinformation against Pakistan cricket team . These are the same “newspapers” that get dragged into courts for many false stories and absolute lies. Phone hacking of parliamentarians is just one example of that. These newspapers hunt down Pakistanis every time this team visits England. Be it the false unproven allegations of ball tempering or match fixing. In their view of the world, England can never lose fairly and especially against Pakistan. There must be something corrupt about an England defeat to Pakistan. Pakistan cricket team pays the price for English press’s hatred against the Pakistanis especially & Muslims in general who are living in United Kingdom. German football team which in the past rarely had a player from non German background in now full of players whose parents descend from different parts of the world. This applies to the whole German society, where Turkish immigrants and their children are now visible in all walks of life. Fatherland, which was once all Germanic has now some Turkish blood running through its veins. Just like when human body is introduced to blood from outside and it takes time to adjust to this new arrival, German body is trying to come to terms with this foreign blood. By Sikander Hayat I beg to differ with my fellow Pakistanis on this issue as in this day and age it will be hard to ban every website with these cartoons. These cartoons are a sad tale of so called freedom of speech warriors in the West and they are nothing but an organised effort to hurt Muslims around the world. The best things Muslims can do to stop people from publishing ever more sadistic portrayals of Prophet Muhammad is to stop banning websites and start a dialogue with the West in order to convey their message to the wider world.

According to reports, Danish police have shot a man who was trying to enter the house of cartoonist Kurt Westergaard, who made cartoons of Prophet Muhammad. The man is injured and in custody of Danish police and his life in not in danger. The man was of Somali origin and was armed with an axe and a knife. If this report is confirmed than it is a very bad development for the European Muslims because the far right will portray the actions of this one man as that of whole community and defame them further. There is a need for the European Muslims to organize themselves in such a way that fellow Muslims can be educated to respect the freedom of speech. There is no doubt Muslims get hurt deeply when their religion is disrespected and this should not become a norm in the European society but at the same time, it is paramount that in a democratic society freedom of speech should be respected. By Sikander Hayat Swiss voters have voted last week to outlaw the building of minarets in Switzerland . 57% of the voters were in favour of this ban. All this shows is the general phobia of Islam and ignorance on part of the general public about the values of Islam . They can’t be blamed as they have been constantly bombarded by the press sometimes true and mostly untrue stories which disfigure and defame Islam . When I look at the general trend in headlines in the European newspapers , it is hauntingly reminiscent of the time just before 2nd World War , when Jews were at the receiving end . Muslims are the new Jews of Europe , the favourite whipping boys. There lies the fear of many that any such attack will bring their faith into disrepute and put their lives in danger. What happened in Fort Hood, Texas, was the realisation of their worst fears. A Muslim army officer Major Malik Nadal Hasan killed 12 of his fellow soldiers at this base and injured many others. It is not uncommon in United States to have shootings at the public places and many people get killed each year due to lax gun laws and habit of many US citizens to carry guns but when a person with a Muslim name is involved in any such incident, implications become huge. 9/11 is not a very distant memory, also US is fighting two increasingly unpopular wars in the Muslim countries of Iraq & Afghanistan and this reality of an ongoing war between US & Islam fuels deep emotions on both sides of the divide.
