Pakistanis Must Decide About There Destination

By Sikander Hayat

Washington USA

I am confused as I try to write the words for this entry as my minds go numb every time my fingers go towards the keyboard and nothing seems to matter anymore no matter how grave it is. The topic which I had in mind was the update on the situation in Pakistan but it seems that not writing about it may be an antidote and a
Washington USAstabilising effect on my mind and my being.
It is true that sometimes events have the power to overawe, be they the ordinary people or nations and my personal situation is not very much different from this country as I am starting to believe that just forgetting may solve my problems.
People have the power
Washington USA

to change what is divine and my people have decided to break what many think is divine. The reason? Well, reason exactly is that some people (read Jihadists) have taken it upon themselves to make this country the part of the “God’s Empire” at any cost. This may be something to do with overreaction on their part to stop the people whom they
Washington USA perceive to be forwarding Western agenda in their lands to take people away from Islam and make them part of morally bankrupt and repugnant western societies.
This is a fascinating issue which has so many complexities at so many levels that take the above statement as absolute truth would be a great injustice to the subject in hand
Washington USA.
In simplistic terms all what is happening today can be traced back to Afghan Jihad against the Soviets in 1980s when world in general and USA in particular fed the jihad and as a result when soviet armies left Afghanistan, there were thousands of trained and battle hardened young Muslims from all around the world who were left without a cause and there was a need to rehabilitate these fighters in there home countries but that that never materialised. Indeed, what happened was exactly the opposite, Pakistan from where most of people had come from to Washington USAfight and the country which had suffered the most as result of this unwanted war was put under severe economic sanctions.
That resulted in absolute hatred among Pakistanis for America and everything it stood for especially in the regions which bordered Afghanistan especially because they had suffered more than anyone else.
Out of hundreds of billions which USA is spending now to combat this menace even if a tiny portion has been spent in war ravaged country of Afghanistan, it can arguably be said that 9/11 would not have happened.

"KARACHI: More than a dozen more people were killed overnight in Karachi, deepening fears of instability in the commercial hub after the killing of a member of the MQM in the city.

Sixty-two people have been killed since Monday, police and officials said, following the assassination of Raza Haider, a lawmaker in the Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM).

“Four people were shot dead in one incident late last night, while six to seven trucks parked under a bridge were also burnt,” Karachi police chief Waseem Ahmed told Reuters.

Hospital sources and officials said a total of at least 12 people were killed overnight in shootings. More than 150 were wounded.

Early on Wednesday, unknown people set fire to several mobile phone shops in a main market in the city.

Fearing more violence, most shops and fuel stations in the city were still closed on Wednesday morning.

“The situation is not good. I will wait for a few hours to see how it goes and if other people in the market also open shops, then I will as well,” said Muhammad Jawaid, standing outside his closed bakery.

Trading was once again dull at the Karachi Stock Exchange, which closed an hour early on Tuesday amid security concerns.

The main index was, however, up 0.69 percent by 11:55 a.m. (0655 GMT).

“The attendence in the market is still very thin and the turnover is likely to be low again today as people are still scared,” said Asad Iqbal, chief investment officer at Faysal Asset Management Ltd."

India: The Terrorists Within

A day after major Indian cities were placed on high alert following blasts in the IT city of Bangalore, as many as 17 blasts ripped through Ahmedabad, capital of the affluent western Indian state of Gujarat . Some 30 people were killed, some at hospitals where bombs were timed to go off when the injured from other blasts were being brought in. (Later, in Surat, a center for the world's diamond industry, a bomb was defused near a hospital and two cars packed with explosives were found in in the city's outskirts.) Investigators pointed fingers at the usual Islamist suspects: Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT), Bangladesh- based Harkat-ul Jihadi Islami (HUJI) and the indigenous Students' Islamic Movement of India (SIMI). But even as the police searched for clues, the Ahmedabad attacks were owned up by a group calling itself the " Indian Mujahideen. " Several TV news stations received an email five minutes before the first blasts in Ahmedabad. The message repo...

Pakistan Army Must Not Intervene In The Current Crisis - Who To Blame For the Present Crisis in Pakistan ?

By Sikander Hayat Another day of agony and despair as Pakistanis live through a period of uncertainty but still I believe that army must not intervene in this crisis. These are the kind of circumstances when army need to show their resolve of not meddling in the political sphere of the country. No doubt that there will be people in the corridors of power and beyond who will be urging the army to step in and ‘save’ the country but let me tell you that country will only be saved if army stays away and let the politicians decide the future of the country, even if it means that there will be clashes on the streets of Islamabad. With free media in place, people are watching with open eyes the parts being played by each and every individual in this current saga. They know who is right and who is wrong and they will eventually decide who stays in power when the next general election comes. Who said that democracy was and orderly and pretty business ; it is anything but. Democracy ...
