Has Gordon Brown been punished for being a Scot?

This is a question which is making me uncomfortable and every day tabloids especially and broadsheets generally are accusing him for everything which is happening in this country. Why the destiny of this great country being decided by hateful, vengeful papers like daily mail and in the case of Ken Livingston, Express which called him anti-Semitic and constructed a web of lies to make sure that general public becomes blinded by their campaign of hate. Coming back to the question of Gordon Brown, he has been accused of changing his mind on the 10p tax issue but at the same time Tony Blair was accused of not listening on many issues. Electorate cannot have it both ways; either you want to have a prime minister who listens or someone who does not. I believe that Tories are not yet ready for the business of government not at least until they put there policies in front of the electorate and then let them decide. There is another factor at play as well and that is of fatigue. In most western

A Pakistani in Turkey

BY DR MOEED PIRZADA MANY years ago I fell in love with Bosphorus, its bridges, fishermen and Turkey. This affair still continues. But just like the evolution of all passions in our lives my reasons have changed. Eighteen years ago, I had just finished college — my first college. The University of Life had to follow. Travelling across Europe, Istanbul was my last stop before Pakistan. And it was the only place where I felt at home. Shopkeepers next to the Topkapi Palace and the fisherman at the Bosporus thought I was a Turk, and when I insisted that I am a Pakistani, they thought I am lying to claim the importance of a foreigner, of being different. I had stayed in England and just passed through France and Germany so I knew the kind of importance you get when you are a Pakistani. They were laughing for they thought I was caught lying. I laughed at their innocence. Fast forward. Last week, in Islamabad, now with GEO TV, I had the opportunity to interview Turkish Foreign Minister, Ali Ba

Pakistan in contact with Spain on arrested nationals

Pakistan said Thursday that it is in contact with the Spanish authorities on its nine nationals arrested for planning terrorist attacks in Spain and other European countries. Twelve Pakistanis were took into custody by Spanish police in Barcelona on Jan. 18, 2008 on the suspicion of planning terror attacks in Spain and other European countries. Among the 12 detained, nine were produced in the Madrid anti-terrorist court for hearing on Jan. 23, while others were released for insufficient evidence. The Spanish authorities claimed to have recovered bomb-making material and timing devices from the detained people. Sadiq said the detainees, who are in three different jails, were met by Pakistan's consular officials, and Pakistani embassy in Spain also requested the Spanish authorities to allow the families of the detainees to establish contact with them.

Israeli German Relations

When Angela Merkel visited Israel in March, Prime Minister Ehud Olmert personally greeted the German chancellor at the airport, embracing her as if she were the president of the United States. During the trip, Merkel heartily reaffirmed Germany’s “special” relationship with Israel, most notably through a groundbreaking speech delivered before the Knesset in which she repented of German atrocities committed during World War II and pledged that Germany would “never abandon Israel, but instead will remain a loyal partner and friend.” After the visit, the consensus among Israel’s leaders and media pundits was, Germany is now Israel’s second-best friend. Indeed, judging by the flirtatious political dialogue, it appears the Israel-German relationship is in radiant health. In tow with Merkel was half the German cabinet, who during the visit conducted an inaugural joint-cabinet meeting with Israeli counterparts in the Knesset. But these leaders form the minority in Europe . The Jewish p
